My husband and son are camping this weekend with the Scouts. It got me thinking back to a camping trip I took 20 years ago when I was in college and a carefree, socially irresponsible thing.
CAMPING 101
Whoever heard of Rocky Neck State Park? Until Brenda mentioned it, I hadn’t.
It was 1993 and Brenda was my downstairs neighbor. We met in college. I helped her get an apartment in my building. We bitched about college. We shared coffee on Sunday mornings. And we went biking. But we’d Read more [...] Filed under Comic Relief
Silence is golden: Misophonia
Do you find yourself clenching your teeth or hands, wanting to scream with rage or bash something for what seems like no reason, except that someone nearby is clicking a pen, munching on carrots, or slurping their drink? Have your loved ones and friends laughed at you because you feel such strong emotional responses to sounds others don’t even seem to notice?
Then you may have misophonia. It’s literally a condition that’s “hatred of sound.” Not all sounds, but specific ones that Read more [...] Filed under The Dark Side
Optimist vs. Pessimist: Do you see the light in the dark?
Most folks are shocked when they read what I write. They're even more shocked when they attend a reading. Out of the corner of my eyes I see people shrink back or hear a soft "ooh". I admit to writing some dark stuff, but I'm mostly a bubbly, optimistic gal with an innocent demeanor. Truly I am (just ask my friends!).
I do try and look for the positive in things. Whenever something terrible happens or just a bump in the day I believe it's fate and that it happens for a reason.
That reason may Read more [...] Filed under Books, Inspirational
Bog bodies and my favorite day in Ireland
When I lived in England as a child, my parents and I traveled much of Europe. I recall Ireland as being green as a true leprechaun in my young mind, rugged and beautiful. I never kissed the Blarney Stone (I was too scared to hang by my feet to do it) but I did so many other wonderful things.
I caught a rainbow trout in an icy stream. I hiked through peat on a fog-covered mountain to bear witness to Saint Patrick's Holy Well in Kerry. I recall we walked all that morning through soft peat to Read more [...] Filed under Seasonal

Beauty Is The Place Where Love Resides
“The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure that she carries, or the way she combs her hair. The beauty of a woman is seen in her eyes, because that is the doorway to her heart, the place where love resides.” — Sam Levinson (quoted by Audrey Hepburn)
Today I'm participating in the Beauty of a Woman Blogfest. It's designed to celebrate beauty, however you define it, by the lovely (inside and out!) August McLaughlin. Visit her blog and read stories of beauty that are Read more [...] Filed under Inspirational
